We all grew up with the adventures of Pat & Mat, two neighbours who are always ready to help each other out. This Wednesday we welcome neighbour Esmeralda de Vries, who initiated a collective of various neighbours to look after each other and help out if necessary. For those neighbours in Leeuwarden who are in need for a cup of coffee, some groceries, clothing, advise or just a conversation, there is the ‘Buurvrouw & Buurvrouw bus’ (Neighbour & Neighbour bus). Do you sometimes borrow something from your neighbour? At various spots in Leeuwarden you can borrow from ‘neighbourhood fridges’ if you need something or leave groceries that you want to share.
Esmeralda will tell about how their initiative evolved after the experience of making “the Biggest Crouchet Blanket in the World”. Moreover their philosophy is ‘no money, no rules’, which is also much against taking-for-granted approaches. Prepare for an interesting encounter with ‘Buurvrouw Esmeralda’ and you will hear what is going on in the neighbourhoods in Leeuwarden. Adding to that is the notion that everybody has a neighbour and therefore everybody is a neighbour. What kind of neighbour do you want to be?
Neighbours of the world, hope to see you all this Wednesday!
