Debating: Being right vs. getting it right (February 9)

debating

Currently, more and more open debating on various topics is taking place, especially online. Sometimes it becomes very polarized and people do not shy away from proving they´re right in any way, even if they are not. But fortunately, there is usually the intention to have a good debate on different topics. But what makes a debate a good debate?

In the session on Wednesday, February 9, we will elaborate on the topic of debate. What is the history of debating, who were the great debaters, what are argumentation styles and when is something a fallacy? What roles do you have in debate and how do you keep it civilized or, in other words, what are the rules of the debate. If you need a quick refresher regarding this topic, take a look at the last inspiration session centered around debating again.

The session will be taking place at the locations of Leeuwarden (X-Lab), Emmen (room 1080) or Meppel (room 15). Registration is not necessary anymore, but stay at home if you have Covid related complaints, consider a self-test to be sure and try to keep your distance. We take care of the fourth rule: ventilation!
