Yoga: Learn to relax yourself (6 January)

Dear students,

Welcome back! We hope that you have had a nice holiday, with all the measures taken recently, and we all wish you a happy and healthy 2021! We are looking forward to seeing you next Wednesday (6/1/21).

With the current situation and the test week ahead of us, we will kick off tomorrow with an online yoga session. So, we are going to start this new year in a relaxed way!

The inspiration session will be given by Tamara van der Schaaf. She is a yoga teacher and practical philosopher. She teaches yoga at the Growth Studio at different locations, gives workshops and theme afternoons. Her new website www.groeistudio.nl is in the making!

She is trained in different traditions such as Advaita, Integral yoga and Kashmiryoga and has been teaching yoga to children since 2009. Since 2013 she also gives yoga and meditation classes to adults, the elderly and pregnant women. In 2015 she went to India for a month for a study trip, where she visited a.o. Auroville and the Ashram of Sri Aurobindo and Ramana Maharshi.

What are we going to do on Wednesday?

Yoga is the Art of Relaxation. Relax in or close to yourself. This is so familiar that we often forget or overlook it.

Through accessible exercises from yoga we will renew our knowledge of the body on Wednesday, through gentle attention and feeling. When these two go together, the body can relax and soften on a deeper level and there can be space in the body. The mind silences by itself because the awareness is with the body. Because of this, clarity can arise spontaneously.

We will also discuss the differences between stress and tension and how we can use these signals as tools for our growth and relaxation.

By the way: put on easy-fitting clothing before class, e.g. jogging trousers or leggings.

All students from NHL Stenden are welcome to join this session. It will be casted in Blackboard Collaborate, starting at 14.30 hrs. You can ‘walk in’ 15 minutes earlier and have a chat if you like.

Students that are subscribed to X-Honours are asked to join via the X-Honours’ Blackboard course.
